91原创 Kinsmen award honours volunteer spirit for university students

New award will be presented to Kwantlen Polytechnic University students won contribute to community

The 91原创 Kinsmen Club has donated $84,000 to Kwantlen Polytechnic University for an award in its name, the 91原创 Kinsmen Community Award.

鈥淭he 91原创 Kinsmen firmly believe in our youth as our future and we love the opportunity to sponsor a perpetual bursary to 91原创 students with volunteer spirit,鈥 says Scot Jackson, 91原创 Kinsmen vice-president.

鈥淧artnering with Kwantlen Polytechnic University is a perfect fit for us. The 91原创 Kinsmen Community Award is a legacy not only to help our community鈥檚 youth, but also to honour our 91原创 Kinsmen predecessors who we recognize for their contribution to the community. We trust that the recipients of the award will carry on contributing to their communities for generations to come.鈥

Students will receive $1,000 per year, up to four years, while studying at Kwantlen, based on the following criteria: recipients must be enrolled in a program at Kwantlen Polytechnic University, graduated from the 91原创 School District, are Canadian citizens or landed immigrants, have a demonstrated financial need, and one involved in volunteerism or community service on an ongoing basis.

鈥淎s a long term member of a service club in 91原创, I am deeply gratified by this most generous gift by the Kinsmen,鈥 says John McKendry, president and vice chancellor of Kwantlen Polytechnic University.

鈥淚t not only reaffirms for me the importance of such volunteerism in our community, it also reaffirms the importance of supporting our students through their post-secondary education.

"We cannot say 鈥榯hank you鈥 enough.鈥

The Kinsmen Club of 91原创 has a long history of helping others within the 91原创 Township and City. In addition to the Kwantlen donation, the 91原创 Kinsmen have been supporting the 91原创 Child Development Centre, Pacific Riding for Developing Abilities, Teens Mag and the 91原创 Christmas Bureau. The club has also recently supported the 91原创 Youth for the Fallen, 91原创 Lodge, Big Brothers/Sisters of 91原创 and various other groups and individuals.
