Aldergrove鈥檚 Little Lemonade Legends serve up sweet success

Aldergrove Business Association hosted its third annual lemonade stand competition

More than a dozen kids first turned lemons into lemonade 鈥 and then into cash prizes 鈥 at the Aldergrove Business Association鈥檚 (ABA) annual Little Legends Lemonade competition Sunday, July 27, at the Aldergrove Legion.

Kids as young as four years old set up creative stands at the Royal Canadian Legion Aldergrove branch and poured out their best recipes for a chance to win some of the $450 in cash prizes, along with donuts and candy handed out by ABA's president Jodi Steeves.

The contest, now in its third year, teaches the young participants about running a lemonade stand. They are encouraged to create not only creative beverages but also distinctive booths to appeal to customers.

The little participants were celebrated for best lemonade, best stand, and most creative marketing determined by judges and people's choice award chosen by the public.

Steeves said Little Lemonade Legends is the "cutest competition" on social media.

Seven-year-old Kayla kept it classy with a simple, sweet lemonade. When asked what award she hoped to win, she smiled and said, 鈥淢oney.鈥

Eight-year-old Addison wowed judges and customers alike after squeezing nearly 100 lemons that morning and adding locally grown, farm fresh blueberries to her mix.

Kohen, 9, won first place for his 鈥淏lue Cosmo鈥 lemonade with edible glitter.

Returning champ Coraline, 8, and her little helper/sister Emily, 4, impressed judges with handmade business cards and a prize spinner, earning them the 鈥淏rightest Idea鈥 award.

Sisters Jasra and Aurora, ages 11 and 9, debuted their honey-sweetened, sugar-free lemonade 鈥 one of the only no-sugar options at the event 鈥 and earned compliments for both flavour and presentation.

With big smiles, bold flavours, and even bolder business ideas, these young entrepreneurs squeezed the day.
