Patty Bennett鈥檚 love of old cars and motorbikes is a family thing.

鈥淢y family always had old motorcycles and cars, so I鈥檝e always liked them,鈥 said Bennett, director of the annual Aldergrove Fair Show 鈥楴鈥 Shine.

鈥淟uckily, I married someone who has the same interests, and our sons both love it, too,鈥 Bennett told the 91原创 Advance Times.

鈥淚 started volunteering with the Aldergrove Fair when we bought a house in Aldergrove. After helping at the first show 鈥榥鈥 shine, my husband and I have continued the tradition.鈥

This year, like previous years, the show is expected to attract hundreds of classic, custom, and collector cars and even more car fans to the Aldergrove Community Secondary School parking lot.

鈥淎 variety of vehicles attend,鈥 Bennett explained. 鈥淢ilitary, imports, North American, motorcycles, race cars. All are welcome.鈥

Last year, there were more than 200.

Asked why Aldergrove seems to have become a home for cool cars and their builders, Bennett shares some history.

鈥淎ldergrove has a lot of car enthusiasts,鈥 she noted.

鈥淚t was established as a great racing hub with the 91原创 Speedway and the 91原创 Quarter Midget Association. The speedway is no longer operating, but the area still has talented car builders and many car club members.鈥

This year鈥檚 show, at 26850 29th Ave., will run from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday, July 14.

Admission is free, no registration is required. There will be live music.

This year, the fair was unable to host the Canada Day parade due to the high expenses associated with organizing the event on a statutory holiday, particularly traffic control costs.

However, organizers said the Christmas parade in December will still be held.

In the meantime, the Aldergrove Fair continues. In addition to Aldy鈥檚 show 鈥榥鈥 shine, live entertainment, kids activities, and the beverage garden kicking off Friday night, the traditional fair festivities continue through the weekend, both Saturday and Sunday, at the Aldergrove Athletic Park, 26770 29th Ave. Admission is free, but donations are accepted at the gate.
