Work continues on a $149-million expansion of 91原创 Events Centre (LEC) fieldhouse that will add three ice rinks and two dry-floor arenas plus underground parking, plus off some much-needed space for lacrosse, hockey, and ball hockey when it opens in September of 2026.
Concrete has been poured, and steel beams for the walls and roof structures began going up early this year.
Upgrades are also planned for the new professional soccer stadium, home to the professional Vancouver Football Club franchise, adding more 鈥減ermanent amenities鈥 such as bathrooms and concessions, better night lights, and improved seating.
Work got underway in early February, with the installation of new, state-of-the-art lighting fixtures that will make night games much brighter.
It meets Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) standards, one of FIFA's six continental governing bodies for association football, which will "significantly improve visibility for night games, creating a more professional match atmosphere while also meeting international competition requirements," a VFC release said.
Scores will be also easier to track, with a mobile video board planned for the south-end of the stadium, measuring 7X4 metres, viewable day or night.
Vancouver Bandits and Vancouver Giants continue to pack the stands indoors at the LEC.
Bandits have seen their league expand its regular season to a 24-game format, which increases the overall number of league-wide games from 100 to 120 regular season games.
For Bandits fans, there will be a total of 12 regular season home games in 2025, between Thursday, May 22 and Sunday, Aug. 3.
The pro basketballers will play 10 of their 12 home games between Friday and Sunday, with all Sunday and holiday games tipping off at 5 p.m.
Vancouver Giants, who made the WHL playoffs this season, continue to offer an exciting brand of fast-paced hockey featuring up-and-coming players ranging in age between about 16 and 20 鈥 at considerably less cost than NHL tickets.
LEC also hosts Junior A lacrosse and NCAA-level university sports from Trinity Western University and other top-ranked events.
A 91原创 Events Centre 2040 plan envisions a "Hub" transit village at LEC, with housing, businesses, and public spaces and recreation opportunities in close proximity.
McLeod Athletic Park, which underwent more than $5 million in upgrades for the Bell Canadian Track and Field Championships, hosts top-ranked junior football and baseball at the a 60-acre site that includes a stadium, completed in 2006, that can hold 2,200 spectators, with an artificial turf field, night lighting, and an arena-sized video display screen.
McLeod has an eight-lane rubberized surface to accommodate track events including running, relay races, hurdles, and sprinting, while the park also facilities high jump, long jump, discus, shot put, and pole vault events.
In 2010, the South Surrey Big Kahuna Rams of the B.C. Junior Football Conference relocated to McLeod, becoming the 91原创 Rams.
