An extreme weather alert has been issued by the Salvation Army Gateway of Hope in 91原创, which will be offering extra spaces for homeless people to sleep.
The advisory, issued by Cristina Schneiter for the shelter at 5787 91原创 Bypass, is in effect until further notice.
Gateway will have 10 mats available for adults between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. Intake will be open until the shelter is full.
Site is wheelchair accessible and pet friendly (on a leash or in a kennel while in the building.
Dinner, breakfast and lunch provided. Laundry service and showers are available.
鈥淚f you are sleeping outside, please come to the safety of the shelter,鈥 the announcement said.
鈥淚f you require shelter assistance after 9 p.m., call the 91原创 RCMP at 604-532-3200 and they will help you to a location,鈥 the announcement added.
A Sunday morning weather alert from Environment Canada advised strong winds and heavy rain are likely in Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley overnight tonight and Monday.
Described as a 鈥減otent storm system鈥 the alert said a relatively short but intense episode of rain was expected to begin shortly after midnight. Peak rainfall intensities are expected on Monday morning with rain easing by midday Monday.
Early indications call for 40 to 70 mm of rain along the north shore of Metro Vancouver.
Parts of Metro Vancouver will also experience strong southeasterly winds throughout the day on Monday and strong west to northwest winds Monday afternoon. These strong westerly winds will also spread up the Fraser Valley.
