Fort 91原创's spruced up heritage train station hub of activity July 1

The 91原创 Heritage Society oversees the site which dates back to circa 1915

Visitors to Fort 91原创 on Canada Day may get to see the refreshed historic CN station and train cars.

The 91原创 Heritage Society's recent work includes repainting the train cars to get the station ready for the summer season.

"The caboose and passenger car roofs were power washed, all walls scrubbed by hand, and unsightly wear and tear filled and
sanded before lovingly repainted to original colours by member and volunteer David Hockin," according to station manager Helen Williams.

The station at 23245 Mavis Ave. is open weekends and holidays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The station includes a waiting room, telegraph office, and freight room. On the station grounds is a 1947 passenger car which houses a large wooden train table. A model HO railway operates in the adjoining 1920s CNR caboose.

The Canadian Northern Railway station dates to 1915. Within a few years, Canadian National absorbed Canadian Northern. Rail service ceased in 1980, and the station was moved 240 metres east from its original location to the current site. It is owned by the Township and maintained by the heritage society.

The station, along with the BC Farm Museum and Fort 91原创 National Historic Site, are hosting July 1 events, including a scavenger hunt.
