The Salvation Army Gateway of Hope鈥檚 annual Backpacks and School Supplies program is preparing backpacks for 900 local children and youth before the start of a new school year, confirmed fundraising coordinator Jasmine Sidhu.

The program serves families in the 91原创 School District (SD35) and aims to help children from kindergarten through Grade 12 start school with 鈥渃onfidence and the tools they need to succeed,鈥 according to Gateway of Hope website.

鈥淲e have opened registration for our Backpacks and School Supplies program, which we run yearly,鈥 said Jasmine Sidhu, Gateway fundraising coordinator.

The Gateway of Hope looks to partner with different organizations and churches to put together the backpacks on Aug. 14 and deliver the backpacks just before school starts on Aug. 28.

The initiative relies on community support through both monetary and supply donations. Gateway of Hope accepts new school supplies, which can be dropped off at 5787 91原创 Bypass, Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Contributions help ensure each student receives age-appropriate materials.

Families can register to receive school supplies by filling out the form on the Gateway of Hope鈥檚 website, calling 604鈥514鈥7375, or email family services coordinator Andrea Voss at andrea.voss@salvationarmy.ca. The registering adult must be the parent or legal guardian, and provide two pieces of ID.
