Spring is the time to shear the alpacas at Kensington Prairie Farm and the public can watch during the annual event.
The farm's spring shearing event is from 10 a.m. to 4p.m. on Saturday, May 11, and Sunday, May 12. There will be live shearing demonstrations by experts, as well as a market with local artisans and makers, free alpaca information sessions, bunny interaction, food trucks and vendors, face painting, and balloon animals.
A portion of the event鈥檚 proceeds will go to Quechua Benefit, a charity that supports children in rural Peru by providing access to medical care, food, clothing, shelter, and education.
Admission is $7.50 for a one-day pass or $14 for both days. Children five and younger are admitted free. Tickets are available at www.kensingtonprairie.ca or at the gate. The farm is at 1736 248th St.

The shearing process involves shaving the coats off the alpacas, and sorting and grading the fleece from more than 100 alpaca.
Kensington Prairie is a family-owned farm that breeds and raises Huacaya alpacas. The farm is home to a variety of other animals including llamas, camels, chickens, ducks, bunnies, donkeys, emus and more. In addition to its boutique selling luxury alpaca products and souvenirs, the farm produces honey, jam, hay, and silage.
