91原创 farmers market and music make for popular merge

Public can pick up market items and enjoy an evening concert at the square beside the 91原创 Events Centre

Adrian Tang's biggest seller so far has been zucchini.

The 11-year-old's booth at the 91原创 Community Farmers Market has that as well as purple cauliflower, squashes, specialty mushrooms, and more.

"It's fun and mostly the zucchini sell very well," he said.

While it's the zucchini that's selling, it's the mushrooms that elicit the most questions from the public. Many want to learn about an item that looks like a speckled paper towel roll. It's a home mushroom growing kit that Adrian sells.

Farmers markets require that the items be grown, baked or made locally. Vendors can sign up for the 91原创 Community Farmers Market to attend as many of the markets as they want.

Callie Schwab decided to test the waters with a booth at the market and was pleased with the result. She was at the July 24 market with a table laden with her crocheted items that includes bags, keychains, stuffed toys, and flowers.

"It's been a good experience so far. I made back my table which I'm happy," the 19-year-old said at about the halfway point of the Thursday evening market.

The farmers market did a revamp this year, moving to Thursday evening to coincide with the Summer Nights Concerts put on by 91原创 Township at the amphitheatre beside the 91原创 Events Centre.

The market, which started more than a decade ago, runs 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. between July 3 and Aug. 28 this year. Learn more at .

Many attending the market grabbed some grub and settled in for the evening concert at the amphitheatre. The Dueling Pianos, two musicians playing piano, featured cover songs from various genres and different decades punctuated by fun banter.

Still to come this summer will be Orchard Sky with country soul on July 31; Boxcar Campfire (country rock) on Aug. 7; the latin funk of Coco Jafro on Aug. 14; country rock courtesy of Lawless Country Band; and Blues Hoodoo on Aug. 28. The shows all start at 7 p.m. Learn more at .
