About 30 volunteers showed up Saturday morning to take part in the first day of set-up for the 27th annual Christmas in Williams Park display, winding lines of lights around trees along the road that runs through the park at at .

This year, there will be more lights than ever, thanks to the generosity of several local businesses, who have made cash donations to fund the extra bulbs.

An additional 4,800 lights were put up Saturday, and more are coming, said president Barbara Sharp.

鈥淚鈥檓 off to buy some more lights,鈥 she said.

The festive event is a 鈥渄rive-thorough鈥 that allows people to stay in their vehicles as they tour the lit-up park.

The show will run from 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. every night with the exception of the opening day on Friday, Dec. 1, when the show will be officially opened by the mayor at 4:30 p.m.

Free hot chocolate courtesy of CUPE B.C. and candy canes will be handed out during the opening day festivities.

Christmas in Williams Park will continue until Friday, Dec. 15.

Admission is free but donations are gratefully accepted to help cover display maintenance costs.

Volunteers are needed to assist with set-up and take down, and to greet park visitors during the event.
