A drive to find stem cell donors is coming to 91原创 this Friday, Sept. 8.
Marie Grim was moved to organize a testing campaign after her sister-in-law, Tania Grim, needed a stem cell transplant as part of her leukemia treatment.
Tania, a mother of four, was diagnosed with cancer in January. It took months to find her a stem cell donor.
Now Marie wants to help others and reduce the waiting list for people in need of stem cell therapy.
鈥淭his is kind of a pay it forward,鈥 she said.
The drive, dubbed #GetSwabbed, will be held from 3:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Immanual Christian Reformed Church at 21713 50th Ave. on Sept. 8.
Run by Canadian Blood Services, it is for registrants between 17 and 35 years old, in general good health, and with valid provincial health coverage.
Registration only takes 10 minutes.
