Last week鈥檚 photo was of George Ripley.
The 91原创 Centennial Musem photo inscription includes 鈥淩ipley insturmental in starting riding club - worked for M. Coulter鈥; also donor name.
He was born in Ireland and sailed to Canada from the Port of Down in the spring of 1912 on the Anchor liner Columbia on his way around the world. He ran out of money for his trip in 91原创; so he started to work laying ties for the Canadian Northern Railroad. He bought a small property in Fort 91原创 and met Jennie D. Forrester, a teacher in Tyne Head (and previously Quadra Island).
The couple was married in 1919 and they lived on a small property in Fort 91原创. In 1920 the couple went to Ireland where George took over management of the family estate. In 1926 Jennie and George Ripley returned to Canada with their children Thomas Andrew Forrester Ripley, born 1921; Helen Christina Ripley, born 1923; Mary Eleanor Ripley, born 1924; and George Colin Ripley, born 1926. Jean Anne Ripley was born in New Westminster on 18 February 1929.
George Sr. died in 1929 at the age of 36 and was buried in the Fraser Cemetery, New Westminster.
