Volunteers turn out for annual cleanup

Volunteers hit the streets of 91Ô´´ Township to tidy streets, parks, trails, and creeks by collecting litter discarded in public spaces during on Saturday, April 26.

At one of the community collection sites, the parking lot of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at at 20030 82 Ave., as orange garbage bags were being brought in for collection by the Township, it appeared the amount of dumping wasn't as bad as it could have been.

It was encouraging, said Bishop Mathieu Majeau, the congregational leader of the 91Ô´´ church, who was on hand to help collect the bags as they arrived, at the church.

"The feedback that I just got from people that just came back today, is that there's definitely places where there's a more critical mass of things to pick up, but overall, I think they're pleasantly surprised [that] there's not that much out there to pick up all over the place," Bishop Mathieu Majeau told the 91Ô´´ Advance Times.

While "there's concentrated places" of trash, overall,  "I think the citizens here in the community are doing a great job in trying to keep it basically in a good state."

Majeau said it was "always a pleasure" to participate in the annual cleanup.

"We love the fact that when we do it here, there's people from the community that sign up, and we get a chance to talk to them." he remarked.

"We had some people this time around that just moved into the community and saw this event and came to participate, so that's great."

Other participants community clean-ups included Chelsea Green Trash Pickers in Walnut Grove, 91Ô´´ Meadows Community Association, Rotary Club of 91Ô´´ Sunrise in Fort 91Ô´´ and the Walnut Grove Starbucks
