For realtor Matthew Rufh, brick and mortar homes were replaced with gingerbread and icing sugar on Wednesday night.

The 4th annual Gingerbread Competition brought out creative 鈥 and hungry 鈥 kids to the Boys and Girls Club of 91原创 for an evening filled with plenty of sugar, holiday cheer, and well鈥 sugar!

Rufh, a realtor with Royal LePage Wolstencroft, started the tradition in 2016 by donating gingerbread kits to correspond with the number houses his team sold in the Fraser Valley.

鈥淚t went from eight the first year, to 17, to 30, to 31 this year,鈥 Rufh said. 鈥淪ome families don鈥檛 have money in the cards for their kids to build a gingerbread house, so we鈥檙e giving back to the youth of today and creating smiles.鈥

The kits came from Costco, something Rufh turned into a holiday adventure.

鈥淚 went prancing through Costco getting all of these gingerbread kits in an elf costume,鈥 Rufh laughed.

But it was all worth it to put a smile, and some icing, on the kid鈥檚 faces.

Armed with a variety of colourful candies, and even, on one particularly house for creative flair, a five dollar bill 鈥 each house was judged on three categories; creativity, traditional style, and realtor鈥檚 choice.

Though Rufh said he was never a member on the Boys and Girl Club, the program is still close to the 91原创 realtor鈥檚 heart.

鈥淚t鈥檚 such a good program,鈥 he assured.
