Bluesman Jim Byrnes returns to Cascades

The legendary blues musician and actor, Jim Byrnes, is back on the stage of Cascades Casino again next week.

The three-time Juno winner and BC Entertainment Hall of Famer has spent 45 years on the 鈥渂lues highway鈥 with the likes of Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, Taj Mahal, and Robert Cray.

In his 鈥渟mouldering鈥 and 鈥渟moky vocals,鈥 he鈥檚 amassed a collection of 鈥渢rue blue鈥 hits like 12 Questions, Walk on Boy, Still Stuck on You, Jailbird Love Song, and Four Until Late.

And he鈥檚 bringing some of those favourites back to the Summit Theatre stage on Thursday, June 23, for an 8 p.m. show.

Byrnes will once again be accompanied by roots and rock singer and songwriter Babe Gurr.

Boppin鈥 away

Speaking of music, the free summer dance series at Douglas Park kicks off again this Friday.

You鈥檝e Gotta Have Friends returns with its annual Boppin鈥 In the Park, from 6 to 8 p.m. on June 17, with Six Gun Romeo.

The July 15 dance event will feature the musical stylings of The Timewalkers, and Aug. 12 will feature Red Beans and Rice.

Celebrating 30

Soroptimists of the 91原创s members are celebrating 30 years of service to this community with a gala dinner at the Fort 91原创 Golf Course on June 24, starting at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $70 online at silangleys.wordpress.com.

The evening will include gourmet dinner, awards presentations, and dancing.

The group is made up of active and retired business and professional women who work to improve the lives of women and girls.
