Jazz music and coffee will both be served piping hot during the 91原创 Community Music School鈥檚 upcoming Concerts Caf茅 Classico.
A Vancouver-based saxophone quartet, Saxophilia, is set to perform at the LCMS on Oct. 28.
Saxophilia will perform a wide range of repertoire including classical, contemporary and jazz arrangements.
Band member Julia Nolan said the group enjoys performing music by Canadian composers.
鈥淭he group is dedicated to introducing audiences to new and exciting works for the medium, especially by Canadian composers.鈥�
Saxophilia has been playing since the 1990s and includes band members Julia Norlan on soprano saxophone, Kris Covlin on alto saxophone, David Branter on tenor saxophone and Colin MacDonald on baritone saxophone.
The quartet has appeared at various music festivals and has presented programs at conferences for the North American Saxophone Alliance and the 12th World Saxophone Congress in Montreal.
LCMS artistic director Elizabeth Bergmann said she is thrilled to welcome Saxophilia to the facility.
鈥淭heir performance will shine light on a diversity of highly entertaining music that really showcases the range of the saxophone.鈥�
Saxophilia will be perform songs including Joseph Lai鈥檚 premiere quartet, Saxophone Quartet no. 2, Peter Hannan鈥檚 Fast Truck Bop, Pierre Lantier鈥檚 Andante et Scherzetto and Fred Stride鈥檚 Tango del Currie.
The show is at 2:30 p.m. on Oct. 28 at the 91原创 Community Music School.
Tickets for all Concerts Caf茅 Classico events are $20 for adults, $18 for seniors and $10 for students and can be purchased by calling the box office at 604-534-2848.
Other upcoming fall shows at LCMS include the Borealis String Quartet on Nov. 17 and Daniel Bolshoy and Milton Masciadri on Dec. 2.
