Double the fun as 91原创 Township celebrates Canada Day with two parties

Why stop at one giant party, when you can have two?

This Canada Day, thousands of guests, a ton of activities, and dozens of entertainers will gather in two different 91原创 Township locations to celebrate one great country.

Canada Day will be celebrated on Sunday, July 1 with two free, family-oriented events in Fort 91原创 and Willoughby.

In Fort 91原创, the historic 鈥淏irthplace of BC,鈥 Canada Day celebration will kick off with the traditional Fort 91原创 Lions Club Pancake Breakfast, from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m on King Street. The fun gets underway at the 91原创 Centennial Museum, 9135 King St., and the adjacent BC Farm Museum at 10 a.m. with a flag raising, and entertainment starts at 10:35 a.m. when the Genuine Jug Band takes the stage.

The Fort 91原创 Canada Day event will be in full swing outside the museums from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., where guests can explore vendors and displays, try hands-on activities and games, get their faces painted, take a hayride, and visit critters at a petting zoo and reptile exhibit.

Food services will be on hand and stilt walkers and magicians will provide roving entertainment. Welcoming ceremonies and a Canada birthday cake for guests to enjoy will be presented at 12:30 p.m.

Throughout the day, a variety of musical and cultural entertainment will be provided by singer Glisha Del La Cruz, Hanyang Chinese Dancers, Opus One Women鈥檚 Choir, the all-ladies folk band The Ladybugs, Celtica Dance School, Cheedong Drummers, and the Thunderbird Fast Draw Club.

Tillers Folly brings their blend of roots music and history to the main stage at 1:45 p.m. and the Genuine Jug Band returns at 2:40 p.m. to wind down the event.

Admission to the 91原创 Centennial Museum is free on Canada Day and it will remain open until 4:45 p.m. for visitors to explore.

At 7 p.m., a free performance of 鈥淩omeo and Juliet鈥 will be presented by Bard in the Valley at the Fort 91原创 Community Hall as part of Canada Day in Fort 91原创.

Also on July 1, a variety of free Canada Day activities, entertainment, and live musical performances for the whole family will be offered from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Willoughby Community Park, adjacent to the 91原创 Events Centre, at 7888 200 St.

The new Willoughby Amphitheatre Stage, which was built last year to celebrate Canada鈥檚 150th birthday, will feature a number of performers, starting with at 11:15 a.m. will perform amazing feats of strength, balance, and teamwork at 12:15 p.m. and 3:15 p.m., and 15-year-old singer/songwriter performs at 1 p.m. Ventriloquist and friends take the stage at 2:30 p.m., and Celtic band Kailyarders will be featured at 4 p.m. conclude the Canada Day performances at 5:15 p.m.

Throughout the day, guests at Willoughby Community Park can visit a mini version of the 91原创 Community Farmers鈥 Market and a Kids鈥 Zone will keep youngsters busy with face painting, arts and crafts, mini golf, Pacific Trackless Trains, community vendors, games, and inflatables. Youngsters can also play in the playground and cool down in the spray park.

A Canada Day ceremony will be held at 2 p.m., followed by Canada Day cupcakes, and food trucks will be on site to provide sustenance throughout the day.
