For the sixth year, the 91原创 Environmental Partners Society (LEPS) is putting on their 91原创 Eats Local Festival to show residents and visitors the food options available in the community.
New this year, LEPS will be joining forces with the 91原创 Farmer芒鈧劉s Market to deliver a larger local food and fun experience.
This means a date, location, and time change. While previously set for Sunday, to align with the farmers market, the festival is now on Wednesday, Aug. 13 in the Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) courtyard on the 91原创 Bypass, just east of Glover Road and runs from 2 to 6:30 p.m.
The agriculture program coordinator with LEPS, Stephanie Captein, noted that working together with the farmers market just made good sense.
芒鈧揟hey芒鈧劉ve got over 40 vendors and we芒鈧劉re bringing along some special new faces for the event,芒鈧� she said.
While the 91原创 Farmers Market will operate much like usual, visitors can expect it to be bigger and broader than ever with aspects to appeal to all members of the family.
Kids can milk wooden cows, search for eggs and dig for veggies in the LEPS tents, plus they will enjoy facepainting and can win prizes through a match-the-veggie game.
Live music will be provided by the West Coast Fiddlers and one other local act to keep the atmosphere active.
If looking at all the great food items for sale makes you hungry, Captein said there will be some delicious tastes for sale on site.
芒鈧揝easonal 56 will be cooking up their wonderful dinner time goodies,芒鈧� she noted and added there will be other food vendors as well.
A new vendor to 91原创 Eats Local will be Campbell芒鈧劉s Gold Honey Farm and Meadery which will be sampling its mead.
芒鈧揑t will be really exciting to have them there to taste test their mead,芒鈧� Captein said.
VanCity will be on hand with an interractive activity and will be giving out cloth shopping bags great for picking up produce and other delicious local goodies from the vendors.
Captein also pointed out that local chicken girl, Emma, will be bringing a chicken out in support of her group Chickens for 91原创.
芒鈧揝he芒鈧劉s gone to council a couple of times,芒鈧� Captein said of the youngster芒鈧劉s efforts to make backyard chicken rearing common in the community.
芒鈧揥e芒鈧劉re excited to be at the farmers market,芒鈧� Captein noted. 芒鈧揥hy not highlight this place that runs every Wednesday until September and is already selling fresh local food.芒鈧�
Another activity put on by LEPS at the event will be the market kitchen where an instructor will be doing a canning demo from 3 to 5 p.m. It will focus on preserving the local harvest by making jam.
芒鈧揑t芒鈧劉s nice for people to be aware of what 91原创 has to offer,芒鈧� commented Captein. 芒鈧揟his is by no means the be all and end all of local food and beverage producers and providers. There are many options here locally beyond who will be at the farmers market, but it芒鈧劉s a wonderful introduction that everyone can come out to, ask questions, and shake the hand of the person who made it, baked it, or grew it.芒鈧�
