Actress Shelby Wyminga will perform an original short piece Vicissitude during the July First Thursday event at the Fort Gallery. The event runs from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. tonight (July 2).

On the first Thursday of each month the Fort Gallery hosts a variety of visual artists, writers, poets and musicians from the local community who share their gifts and creations.

These free community arts events form part of the Fort Gallery’s ongoing mission to encourage and support local contemporary artists and to engage the public in art that pushes boundaries. They are sponsored by the Township of 91Ô´´.

The July ‘First Thursday’ event will be held on July 2, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. when they will welcome local actress Shelby Wyminga as she performs her short piece, Vicissitude.

Wyminga is an acting student at Trinity Western University.

"To me, the most important aspect of theatre is that it reveals truth, whether it is factual, easy, realistic, pleasant or not," she said.

"I am particularly interested in theatre that explores how humans experience, interact with and deal with pain.

"This piece is a dark comedy that has grown out of some of my own experiences with the seemingly counterintuitive nature of true healing; that is, as one experiences healing, one appears more outwardly broken.’

The evening will also feature artist talks by Susan Falk and Elizabeth Anderson, whose show ‘Visual Stories’ is currently exhibited at the Fort Gallery.
