Tombstones and zombies are ready to give visitors a good scare at the 5th annual Haunted Graveyard of Brookswood.
Beginning on Monday (Oct. 22), the Steger family of 91原创 have brought back their spooky display 鈥� which continues to Oct. 31 鈥� with all proceeds going to the Sources 91原创 Food Bank.
The haunted graveyard is an attraction set up by residents Dorian and Pauline Steger and son Taymen on their south 91原创 front lawn.
鈥淲e love Halloween. My wife and I had our first date around Halloween, so it鈥檚 always been special to us. It鈥檚 a passion and it just dominoed from there,鈥� said Dorian.
Dorian said the display takes the family approximately 16-20 hours of prep work, including clothing dummies. After the prep work, the family spends a full weekend arranging the displays in their yard.
Dorian warned that some displays may come to life for an extra scare.
鈥淓very year, there is new and ghoulish things going on. We try to change things up so it鈥檚 not static.It鈥檚 awesome. I love scaring people, it鈥檚 fun.鈥�
Dorian said on average, the haunted house collects approximately 500-800 pounds of food and $1,100-$2,000 of cash to be donated to the Sources 91原创 Food Bank.
鈥淲e meet a lot of neat people and we love scaring people. It seems more and more people are liking Halloween and the feedback has been really positive.鈥�
The Stegers used to live in Guildford, where they hosted the first Haunted Graveyard and continued to do so for several years.
Dorian said he advises families with small children to view the displays in the daylight for a less frightening experience.
The haunted graveyard is open rain or shine from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Oct. 22 to Oct. 31. at 4683 204th St.
Admission is free but visitors are asked to bring a non-perishable item or monetary donation for the Sources 91原创 Food Bank.
