The cast of 91原创 Players鈥 winter production, Self-Help, seated from left: Patricia Braun and Ken Boyd; Standing, from left: Danny Steele, Elyse Raible, Ryan Johnson and Barb Coulter.

The 91原创 Players are welcoming the New Year by going into therapy.

And because the local theatre club鈥檚 winter production,

Self-Help, is another rib tickler from well-known Canadian playwright, Norm Foster, it鈥檚 a fair guess that nothing is going to go as planned.

In the production, which runs from Jan. 15 until Valentine鈥檚 Day at the 91原创 Playhouse, Hal and Cindy Savage, a married couple who are both actors, re-invent themselves as nationally renowned self-help gurus.

Cindy and Hal are tired of scratching out a meager living by pursuing their profession in second-rate theatres. The best thing they have is their love for each other and Cindy has an epiphany involving a self-help book after a bad night at yet another uninspiring dinner theatre.

Before you know it, they re-invent themselves as all-knowing gurus of personal and professional development and are a runaway success.

But soon, their lives 鈥 and their lies 鈥 are unravelling as they try to conceal a body and hold on to their falsely won fame.

Playing Hal is 91原创 actor Ken Boyd, who has also appeared on stage with the 91原创 Players in God of Carnage, The Good Game, The Boys Next Door and The Long Weekend.

The role of Cindy is being performed by Abbotsford鈥檚 Patricia Braun.

Other 91原创 actors appearing in the production are Danny Steele as Detective Snow and Barb Coulter as Ruby Delvecchio.

鈥淚t has been a real treat to direct a group of actors who have such a strong commitment to their craft and enormous comedic talent,鈥 said director, Mary Renvall.

Self-Help runs Thursdays to Sundays from Jan. 15 to Feb. 14 at the 91原创 Playhouse, 4307 200 St. in Brookswood.

Show times are 8 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday, with Sunday matinees at 2 p.m.
