Tina Turner's triumphant life story is told in a touring musical at Vancouver's Queen Elizabeth Theatre this week.
With all the rock and soul hits, and rising-star singer Jayna Elise in the title role, Broadway Across Canada's opened an eight-performance run Tuesday night (March 25), until Sunday.
Formerly known as Jayna Brown, Elise has appeared on stages with the likes of Tyler Perry, Queen Latifah and also as a finalist on hit TV shows America’s Got Talent and American Idol.
With Tina, she's touring with fellow performers Sterling Baker-McClary (playing Ike Turner Ronnie Turner), Elaina Walton (Zelma Bullock), Mona Swain (Tina Turner at certain performances), Deidre Lang (Gran Georgeanna), Kristen Daniels (Rhonda Graam/Toni Basil) and a large ensemble cast.
The musical chronicles Turner's story as a '60s-era singer who overcame domestic violence, racism, sexism and ageism to become the world's Queen of Rock n’ Roll in the 1980s.
The two-hour, 40-minute show is recommend for viewers aged 14 and older, due to scenes of violence, racist language, loud music and gun shots. Watch the trailer below, and visit for tickets.

The award-winning SIX sounds interesting, as the wives of King Henry VIII "take the microphone to remix 500 years of historical heartbreak into a euphoric celebration of 21st-century girl power," Broadway Across Canada raves. The six (Catherine of Aragon, Anne Boleyn, Jane Seymour, Anna of Cleves, Katherine Howard, and Catherine Parr) take turns telling their story to determine who suffered the most from their shared husband.
