Dozens of visual and performing artists will be sharing their creative work in Downtown 91原创 this weekend, at the second annual Downtown 91原创 Art Crawl.
Taking place Oct. 1 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Oct. 2 from noon to 5 p.m., there will be 27 businesses along 204 Street and the one-way portion of Fraser Highway participating in the self-guided tour.
Each stop will have either local artwork displayed, or a live demonstration of painting or performing by the artists.
鈥淚t鈥檚 another way for artists to get their work out. And then having them attached to the businesses is just like 鈥� two in one 鈥� promotion for both local artists and local businesses,鈥� said artist Rosemary Wallace, who organized the event along with Shelley Garries of Gallery 204 and artist Michele Miguel.
鈥淭here鈥檚 not enough public places for artists to show their work.鈥�
One of the new highlights this year is a live mural painting by youth at-risk in McBurney Lane. Mentored by Wallace and Shane Molina, the final piece, titled A Youth鈥檚 Voice 鈥� Overcoming Darkness, will be donated to Vanguard Secondary School.
Wallace says this idea was inspired by a trip she took to Montreal this past summer.
鈥淛ust being in Montreal is just so cool because there鈥檚 murals everywhere and it was just so artsy,鈥� she said.
鈥淚 would love the City to get more immersed in supporting local artists (like in Montreal).鈥�
