Award winning author Lawrence Hill is the featured guest of the 91Ô´´ Fine Arts School’s (LFAS) Arts Matter Lecture Series on Monday, Oct.19 at the Chief Sepass Theatre in Fort 91Ô´´.
Hill will be talking about his life and work, followed by a Q&A session and a book signing.
The evening will start with student performances inspired by his work, including a dance performance by LFAS alumni, Marissa Gold.
Hill is the author of several books, including: The Book Of Negroes, winner of the Rogers Writers’ Trust Fiction Prize, Commonwealth Writers’ Prize for Best Book and CBC Radio’s Canada Reads; non-fiction Blood: the Stuff of Life, which informed his 2013 Massey lecture; and Dear Sir, I Intend to Burn Your Book: An Anatomy of a Book Burning.
Hill also co-wrote a six-part television mini series based on The Book of Negroes. His fourth novel, The Illegal has recently been published in Canada by Harper-Collins.
Hill was greatly influenced by his parents’ work in the human rights movement. Much of his writing touches on issues of identity and belonging.
