A member of Vancouver鈥檚 musica intima is excited to perform in his hometown, 91原创, this Friday.
Stephen Duncan, a 23-year-old singer from Brookswood, will be one of the a capella performers at the Sing Lullaby performance, held at Shepherd of the Valley Church.
Duncan studied at UBV before embarking on a six-month tour of Canada鈥檚 East Coast, performing with a bilingual opera company based in Montreal.
鈥淚鈥檝e always done music 鈥� both of my parents are music teachers,鈥� Duncan said, listing the cello, trumpet, and piano as some of the instruments he grew up on.
But by far, Duncan鈥檚 most valuable instrument these days is his own voice.
鈥淭he group is one of two professional vocal groups in Vancouver. It鈥檚 has 11 members 鈥� half men and half women 鈥� who all sing a capella,鈥� Duncan explained. 鈥淚t鈥檚 the highest level of musicianship. When it鈥檚 performed well, it feels like nothing else. It can be extraordinary.鈥�

Duncan said Sing Lullaby is a Christmas concert in the British choral tradition.
鈥淭here are a lot of lush harmonies and nothing too new,鈥� he said. 鈥淢ore traditional and spiritual works.鈥�
The concert features seasonal music from Herbert Howells, Jonathan Dove, Kenneth Leighton, and many more.
The ensemble are internationally renowned for their warm and engaging stage presence, musicianship, and unique perspective on ensemble singing.
musica intima is performing Sing Lullaby at several locations in the Lower Mainland, along with other shows including the more irreverent concert called Ding Dong on Thursday, Dec. 19 in Vancouver.
Sing Lullaby will be performed in 91原创 on Friday, Dec. 20, at 7:30 p.m. at 20097 72nd Ave.
