The silver screen is turning green with the launch of a new season of Green Wednesdays at Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU).
Hosted by the KPU School of Horticulture in collaboration with the non-profit Green Ideas Network, the eighth season of the eco-minded film series will feature dynamic documentaries and discussions on the ways energy, agriculture and consumption impact daily lives.
Beginning tonight (Oct. 14), the public is welcome to join KPU students and faculty as they screen movies that tackle climate change, urban and rural sustainability, energy production, agriculture and food.
The screenings often include informed guest speakers who spark spirited conversations on universal environmental and social issues.
鈥淭he films and subsequent discussions with students and the public challenge us to consider ways we can make our everyday world, and our future world, a better place for all living creatures,鈥� said Betty Cunnin, KPU horticulture instructor and faculty support for Green Wednesdays.
The season kickoff event will feature director Scott Renyard and his film The Pristine Coast 鈥� a 鈥減ersuasive and urgent鈥� film about the collapsing pacific marine ecosystem off the coast of British Columbia. The event coincides with BC Rivers Day, as well as WaterWeeks, an annual series of events hosted by the 91原创 Environmental Partners Society that encourages residents of all ages to experience, appreciate and take action to protect their community鈥檚 watershed, wildlife and natural resources.
Held at KPU's 91原创 campus, the screenings run the second Wednesday of each month.
Admission to each event is by donation. Registration is recommended due to limited seating. Most evenings are concluded with free draws for door prizes.

*This first event will be held at the Fraser River Presentation Theatre, fourth floor, 20335 65 Ave. Starting in November, movies will begin at 7 p.m. at KPU 91原创, 20901 91原创 Bypass, in room 1030.
**The November event takes place on the third Wednesday of the month to accommodate Remembrance Day.
