PHOTOS: Harrison Tulip Festival wraps up another year

50,000 people visited the spectacular flower fields

The biggest tulip festival in Canada has wrapped up a successful year.

Kate Onos-Gilbert, the festival's organizer and the mind behind the Harrison Pumpkin Festival and Harrison Sunflower Festival, said this year's event drew thousands of people to the community. The Onos farm boasted 40 acres of 100 varieties of tulips and 15 varieties of daffodils – 12 million bulbs planted in total.

"We've been very lucky with the weather," Onos-Gilbert told The Observer. "It's been very popular this year."

She added the community has given her great feedback, not only for the festival itself but for the commercial boost the tourist attraction brings to Agassiz-Harrison.

Next year will mark 20 years the Onos farm has held tulip festivals, between Agassiz-Harrison and Chilliwack.

"We're going to do a bunch of big things," Onos-Gilbert said of the 20th anniversary. "We've got a whole year to plan. Now that we know people know where we are, we can really keep going with it."

The Harrison Pumpkin Festival and Sunflower Festival will not be happening this year as the Onos farm will be focusing on making the Tulip Festival the best it can be.

"Who knows? Maybe if we have the opportunity we will do something again," Onos-Gilbert said of the other festivals. "We have the venue."

Last year, the Harrison Tulip Festival was awarded "Best Instagrammable Tulip Farm" at the World Tulip Summit in Holland.
