91原创 Community Music School (LCMS) offers two sets of performances in the latter half of November. The first a celebration of Canadian composers to wrap up the end of Canada Music Week and the second a concert featuring Canadian tenor Benjamin Butterfield.
Sunday Nov. 22 鈥� the last day of the national music week 鈥� the Cafe Classico concert will begin with a discussion about music with the performers and Elizabeth Bergmann, the artistic director of the LCMS at 2:30 p.m. with the concert at 3:30 p.m.
Cellist Rachel Mercer and pianist Jeanie Chung will perform a variety of pieces including Canadian Abigail Richardson鈥檚 Crossings.
Mercer said, 鈥淎bigail鈥檚 piece has a really wonderful range of style, and one of the most exciting endings in the repertoire.鈥�
It鈥檚 a fitting tribute to conclude the week designed to showcase Canadian music, composers, and performers.
鈥淚t is a great treat to feature such high calibre interpreters of Canadian music,鈥� said Bergmann. 鈥淚t will be a wonderful and engaging performance.鈥�
Prior to the concert with Mercer and Chung, LCMS will host a free all-Canadian Saturday afternoon concert at 2:00 p.m. on Nov. 21.
Students of all ages and levels will perform with some faculty members.
Saturday Nov. 28 will see tenor Benjamin Butterfield perform accompanied by pianist Sarah Hagen at 7:30 pm.
Described as delivering a full range of emotions, the duo will move from Schumann鈥檚 romantic compositions to modern theatrical songs by Randy Newman and a wide range of musical ground in between.
Bergmann said, 鈥淭he epic narrative song cycle takes audiences on an emotional and engaging journey. The pairing of Shumann with Newman balances the depth and breath of this theatrical musical style. We are really looking forward to welcoming the Butterfield-Hagen duo.鈥�
Butterfield has been celebrated for his talent around the world having performed in North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.
Hagen has been described as an expressive piano player with passion and imagination. She often incorporates photography, dance, and the spoken word into her performances.
