A new choral director for Trinity Western University is making his debut with an evening of harmony and light.

This weekend, Joel Tranquilla leads the first in a set of choral concerts called SHINE that explores the theme of light.

Showcasing 15 of what he calls the 芒鈧揵rightest singers芒鈧 at TWU, the hour-long performance on Saturday, Oct. 25, at the 91原创 Mennonite Fellowship Church 芒鈧 and then the following Saturday, Nov. 1 in Delta 芒鈧 will feature sacred music in English, German, Icelandic, and Afrikaans.

芒鈧揑芒鈧劉m excited about the opportunity to do such a wide range of music from different time periods and in different languages,芒鈧 Tranquilla said.

芒鈧揂nd chamber music is very intimate. It has a completely different feel than some our larger scale choral performances,芒鈧 added the award-winning conductor and 91原创 resident who joined TWU芒鈧劉s School of the Arts, Media + Culture (SAMC) in August.

Both concerts begin at 7:30 p.m. with $10 general admission (students pay what they can).

The evenings, sponsored by Long & McQuade, will feature a Bach cantata based on the familiar chorale tune Nun danket alle Gott (Now Thank We All Our God), which will be accompanied by a small instrumental ensemble.

Also on the program are works by James MacMillan, Moses Hogan, and SAMC芒鈧劉s own David Squires, as well as a set of pieces each based on Psalm 42 by Handel, Palestrina, and Marty Nystrom.

Edward Norman will accompany on organ and piano.
