Eugene Skovorodnikov performs at 91原创 Community Music School on Sunday.

The work of Haydn and Brahms includes love songs, according to Eugene Skovorodnikov, the Ukrainian-born pianist. He will be bringing the music of love to 91原创 in the 91原创 Community Musics School鈥檚 (LCMS) Cafe Classico concert on Sunday, Jan. 17 at Rose Gellert Hall.

Skovorodnikov said he is looking forward to the performance, and added that Brahms鈥 music is of 鈥済reat depth, profound emotions, highest level of sensitivity, and mystery. Probably one of the best examples of music conveying a message of love.鈥

A performer of global tours as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral performer, Skovorodnikov is also a master class teacher at UBC and has played music halls around the world including the Grand Theatre in Shenzhen, China, Ghione Theatre in Rome, Italy, and Theatre Bibiena in Mantova, Italy.

He noted, Haydn is 鈥減robably the most romantic of all composers of the second half of 18th century. These works fit together really well into a fulfilling mix of perfection of music form and emotional content.鈥

Skovorodnikov will perform well-known pieces from Haydn such as Variations in F minor and from Brahms, Sonata No. 3.

LCMS artistic director Elizabeth Bergmann said, 鈥淚t is a great treat to have a pianist of such high international acclaim grace our stage. I look forward to exploring his musical insights and anecdotal stories during our pre-concert talk.鈥

Sunday鈥檚 concert begins at 2:30 p.m. with the pre-concert discussion, break for coffee and refreshments and the concerts at 3:30 p.m. Tickets are available through the Rose Gellert Hall box office at 604-534-2848.
