Two elderly South 91原创 residents were forced out of their home by a fire Monday morning.

The fire broke out around 6 a.m. in a home in the 21300 block of 8th Avenue, according to 91原创 Township鈥檚 assistant fire chief Monty Armstrong.

The residents were awakened by a smoke alarm, and they and their dog all got out safely, Armstrong said.

鈥淣o injuries,鈥 Armstrong reported.

Smoke was still billowing from the ruins of the home at 10:20 a.m. on Monday.

鈥淪ubstantial damage,鈥 Armstrong said. 鈥淲e鈥檙e still evaluating.鈥

Firefighters had to rely on a tanker shuttle for water as there are no fire hydrants in that rural area.

There were five tankers, two regular fire engines, and a rescue vehicle involved.

In all, five of the seven Township fire halls were involved in the operation.
