91原创 City mayor鈥檚 race heating up

Two councillors in two days declare their intentions to run for the top civic spot in 91原创 City.

Paul Albrecht announces his intentions to run for mayor of 91原创 City in October鈥檚 civic election, making him the second councillor in as many days to throw his hat in the proverbial ring.

Coun. Val van den Broek declared her intentions to run on Saturday, and Albrecht issued his official statement Sunday evening.

鈥淚 am pleased and honoured to announce my candidacy for mayor of 91原创 City. With Mayor [Ted] Schaffer leaving, it was time to step-up my commitment to the community that I love,鈥 he said.

Albrecht has lived in the City for more than 24 years with his wife and family, and was elected to council in 2014, along with van den Broek.

鈥淲e have entered a new and exciting era in the City of 91原创 with many opportunities for growth and development,鈥 he said, in announcing his candidacy.

鈥淚 believe I can provide the necessary leadership skills to help resolve current challenges, as well as a progressive vision and fact-oriented approach to bring new energy and vitality to the City,鈥 Albrecht said.

During his first term in office, he has served as chair of the Magic of Christmas parade committee and vice-chair of the advisory planning commission. He was also voted as one of two Vancouver Metro area representatives on the Union of B.C. municipalities, where he said issues of top priority for him were transit, housing, and homelessness.

During the last election, Albrecht ran on his record of community involvement and understanding of local government.

He spent 30 years working in the community as a civil engineering technologist.
