91原创 Township firefighters had to help rescue an escaped cow from a koi pond in the rural Glen Valley area on Tuesday afternoon.

Several steers escaped from a farm in the 25600 block of 76th Avenue at around 1:20 p.m., said deputy fire chief Bruce Ferguson.

鈥淭here may have been two cows in the pond, but one of them got itself out before we arrived,鈥 Ferguson said.

Firefighters brought out their lifting straps, which they use to rescue large animals that become stuck in ponds, ditches, and mud.

It took several attempts, but the cow鈥檚 owner had a boom lift, and with the straps and the lift they managed to remove the cow.

鈥淭he cow was fine when it got out,鈥 Ferguson said.

This is far from the first time local firefighters have been called on to rescue a large animal.

鈥淚 think we do four to six a year,鈥 Ferguson said.
