91原创 public schools will be getting $1.6 million for upgrades at some of its schools.
The provincial government announced $82.5 million in new funding to be split between districts.
The funds come from various programs including the School Bus Replacement Program. The School Enhancement Program is for buildings and mechanical systems. The Carbon Neutral Capital Program funds energy-efficient upgrades.
The 91原创 School District will receive $900,00 for flooring at D.W. Poppy secondary and boiler upgrades at 91原创 Meadows Elementary.
Under the School Bus Replacement Program, the district will get six new buses ($771,100).
鈥淪tudents deserve to learn in schools that are well maintained and operating the way they should. That鈥檚 why we鈥檝e boosted funding to these programs by more than $20 million over last year,鈥 said Education Minister Rob Fleming. 鈥淲e are supporting B.C. schools with this funding, so students, teachers and school district staff can focus their energy to where it matters most - in the classroom.鈥
The announcement did not include any carbon neutral program funds for this district.
Abbotsford鈥檚 school district will receive $2.32 million while Maple Ridge鈥檚 share is $1.61 million.
The funding programs build on the Annual Facilities Grant (AFG), which flows to districts annually for routine school maintenance costs. This year, the total AFG is $115.5 million, an increase of $5 million over last year. This is the first increase to the AFG since 2004/05, according to the provincial government.
