BREAKING: Barricaded male with knife on bus now in custody: Delta Police

Male taken safely into custody just after 11 a.m.

Delta Police say a male who barricaded himself on a transit bus has been safely taken into custody.

Just after 8 a.m. Sunday (May 4), police were made aware of an incident on Annacis Island island where a male with a knife had barricaded himself on a transit bus, according to a Delta Police release.

Several passengers and the driver were evacuated. No one has been injured, and there is no risk to the public at this time, the release noted.

LMD Crisis Negotiators and the LMD Emergency Response Team were called to the scene.

Just after 11a.m., the male was safely taken into custody, police said.

Police did not give the age of the male or the bus route/number, as the incident was still being investigated, but Delta Police Staff Sgt. Mike Whiteley said shortly after noon Sunday that the road closure at the Annacis Island Clivedon Avenue off-ramp had been re-opened.
