Some pretty pawsome models were posing for the camera at White Rock Seniors Village Sunday.
From Samoyds and St. Bernards to poodles and pugs, plenty of pooches showed up — with their guardians in tow — for a chance to to featured in the Dogs of White Rock, an annual calendar that raises funds for the BC SPCA started by one of the Village's residents during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Harold Zelt inspired the calendar through his passion for photographing dogs he met while out and about in White Rock on his scooter. He embarked on the hobby during the lockdown, as a way to stay active and boost morale — making a point of sharing his photos with fellow WRSV residents, as well as staff.
After the 97-year-old's death in April 2024, sons Mike and Barry Zelt have taken on the annual project, and invited the community and their furry family members to two photo shoots for the calendar, one on July 13 and one on Sunday (July 20).
"I think it's just important to keep (Harold's) memory alive," said WRSV recreation manager Jen McDonald Sunday, at the photo shoot, with a hand full of dog treats.
"It's nice to invite the community in and also to give back ... Everybody loves seeing the dogs."
To date, more than $8,000 has been raised for the BC SPCA with the 2020-born calendar, all benefiting the organization's education and adoption efforts in Surrey.
