A new affordable housing project was announced on Wednesday (May 21) for Kwantlen First Nation in Mission.
The province announced $19 million through BC Housing鈥檚 Indigenous Housing Fund to support the construction of 65 affordable homes in partnership with Kwantlen First Nation. The building at 10221 Wilson St. will be on Kwantlen land valued at $3.6 million which was provided for the project.
According to a news release, Kwantlen First Nation Affordable Housing Society will own and operate the building.
The building is expected to be family-oriented, with space for social activities and community programming.
鈥淭he new homes will be located on a naturally forested hillside, overlooking the Stave River,鈥 the news release reads. 鈥淭hese natural features will be highlighted by a large outdoor community space, connected to an indoor recreation area on the second floor. Schools and other amenities are located a short drive away.鈥
More than half the homes will feature two or more bedrooms, including 12 one-bedroom units, 32 two-bedroom units and 18 three-bedroom units.

鈥淭his is another example of how we鈥檙e taking action to help more people build a stronger future for themselves and their family in the community they love,鈥 Kahlon said.
