Flutist, pianist wrap music season in 91原创

Afternoon includes informal chat with artists, followed by performance at 3:15 p.m.

A flutist and pianists come together to perform during the final show of the season for Concerts Cafe Classico.

91原创 Community Music School (LCMS) is hosting flutist Dr. Paolo Bortolussi and pianist Dr. Corey Hamm during their season finale on Sunday afternoon, May 25.

The duo will present flute and piano masterworks from the past century, showcasing Bohuslav Martinu鈥檚 charming and rhythmic sonata for flute and piano and a piece by Czech compatriot Erwin Schulhoff. A pair of lyrical and expressive works by BC composers Jocelyn Morlock and Dorothy Chang will round out the program, said LCMS鈥 artistic director Elizabeth Bergmann, an internationally acclaimed pianist herself.

鈥淭his will be the perfect conclusion to what has been a 91原创enal season of music, for both our Concerts Cafe Classico and Rose Gellert Hall series,鈥 Bergmann said.

The afternoon will open at 2:30 p.m. with a pre-concert talk with the artists, who will share their insights into the music. Complimentary coffee, tea and refreshments will then be enjoyed before the performance at 3:15 p.m.

Bortolussi is a multi-award-winning soloist, chamber artist, and new music pioneer. He is co-artistic director of the Nu:BC Collective and is principal flutist and new music advisor for the Vancouver Island Symphony. He is instructor of flute, chamber music, and directs the Contemporary Players Ensemble at the University of British Columbia School of Music.

Hamm is an award-winning associate professor of piano at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver.

He is on the piano faculty of the Summer Institute for Contemporary Performance Practice (SICPP) at NEC in Boston and performs widely in North America and in Asia as both a soloist and as a chamber musician.

鈥淲e invite everyone to join us for our 2024-25 season finale and enjoy an afternoon filled with conversation and gorgeous music,鈥 said Bergmann.

Tickets are $25 for adults, $23 for seniors, $10 for students, and are available on EventBrite or by calling the box office at 604-534-2848.
