Many country fans in 91Ô´´ have know him as Shawn Meehan, of Trigger Mafia, West Coast Slackers, as well as Me and Mae.
But fans across the country are seeing a slightly different side to the Walnut Grove country rocker, as he's rebranding himself Shawn Daniels and putting out his newest brand of music.
Daniels – an "outlaw-sounding" stage name he picked because his own name is too difficult to pronounce for many – describes himself a Canadian outlaw country rocker. And this 50-plus singer, songwriter, and musician is cranking up the volume on his electric guitar with his latest single, "Country Wild," which was released Friday, May 16.
To celebrate the release of his second single under the Shawn Daniels label – his first was "Louder Than 10," which was released back in February – he's planning a party next week.
His first single was added into rotation on a dozen country radio stations across Canada, and Daniels hopes his new track – which he calls a high-octane celebration of love, wide open spaces, and untamed country nights – will garner similar attention.
Daniels tried to capture the pulse of rural romance and country living with this new "Country Wild" song, a boot-stomping, Southern rock-infused anthem co-written by Daniels and Grammy Award-winner Brian Howes. Howes also produced the track.
"It blends raw energy with radio-ready hooks, creating a fresh take on modern country that hits all the right notes" for what Daniels calls the new generation of country fans.
He will be performing live at The Barn Country Bar in Surrey, at 15330 102A Ave., during the country showcase and launch party on Thursday, May 22.
Tickets are available now for $15 (plus service charge), with $5 from each ticket supporting a local charity Blanket BC, which helps provide warmth and dignity to those in need across the province.
"It's a really worthy cause, and I know the money's going to the right place," Daniels said of the chosen charity.
