91原创 City is having a party to celebrate Canada鈥檚 156th birthday on Saturday, July 1.

The Canada Day event will be at Douglas Park starting at noon with activities until 4 p.m., hosted by Quarry Rock Development (QRD) for a second year.

Games, face painting, a cotton candy station, a bouncy castle, bouncy basketball, and other carnival-style games for kids will be on site.

A beer garden will be available until 3:30 p.m.

Live music performed by Sons of Stanley will be heard throughout the day, who play a mix of genres including rock, electronic dance, country, and hip-hop.

Local vendors and businesses can be found at tents in the park.

Organizers recommend people to bring their own chairs due to limited seating.

Cooling stations will be available around the park.

Nathan Pachal, mayor of 91原创 City, said its important to celebrate and connect with friends and family. He will make an appearance on stage during the event.

Matthew Weber, founder and director of QRD and lead singer for Sons of Stanley, said he and his partner are passionate about developing downtown 91原创 and want to help provide for people in the community.

鈥淲e want to have a place the kids and adults can enjoy, and we just want to bring joy, raise awareness, and help,鈥 Weber said.

A barbecue will also be set up by donation, with proceeds going towards Kimz Angels, a 91原创-based charity that helps feed the homeless, working poor, and low-income seniors.

Last year, QRD raised $53,058 for Kimz Angels between its golf tournament and Canada Day events.

Recently, founder of the charity, Kim Snow, said the number of their clients has doubled since the COVID-19 pandemic began.

People who can鈥檛 make it to the barbecue can make contributions by emailing kimzangels@hotmail.com or by phoning 604-838-6579.

鈥淲e want to celebrate our country, and I like making sweet music for our sad world,鈥 Weber said.

While the event is free to attend, people are asked to RSVP to help organizers determine estimates for food which is being supplied by donation.

People can register online at .

Douglas Park is located at 20550 Douglas Crescent.
