VIDEO: 1 in serious but stable condition after crash on Willowbrook Drive in 91原创 (updated)

Collision closes lanes

A two-vehicle crash sent one person to hospital and blocked traffic on part of Willowbrook Drive near 200th Street on Monday, June 16 around 1 p.m.

One lane of Willowbrook Drive heading east from 200th Street was closed, as was a southbound lane on 200 St.

Witnesses said the crash involved a silver sedan and a dark SUV.  It drew a number of emergency responders, including 91原创 RCMP, firefighters, and two ambulances.

Surrey resident Madina Pinnegar told the 91原创 Advance Times she was driving the SUV with a friend in the passenger seat when they were rear-ended by the other vehicle, which was being driven by an older man.

"[He] hit my car from behind at the red light before continuing through the intersection and hitting the pole where the crosswalk buttons are," Pinnegar described.

"My friend and I in my car were thankfully the only people involved in the accident, other than a woman on the sidewalk who was almost hit but fortunately was okay."

Pinnegar said she was okay, "just a little sore," but worried about the other driver.

"Some Good Samaritans had gotten out of their cars to check on him saying they [thought] he had a seizure at the wheel."

The silver car suffered front-end damage, while the SUV, a 2024 Kia Seltos, had a "good amount of damage to the back and trunk 鈥 the bumpers [came] off and is hanging," Pinnegar said.

According to 91原创 RCMP's Sgt. Zynal Sharoom, the driver of the car involved suffered a medical emergency at the wheel. Neither speed nor alcohol were factors in the crash, Sharoom said.

Sharoom said the driver was taken to a local area hospital for further assessment.
