91Ô´´ Township is reminding candidates, political parties, and the general public about the rules surrounding election signs within the municipality.
Signs can go up from when the writ is dropped and must be removed by May 4 (four days after the election). General election day is Monday, April 28 for the federal election.
The Township sign bylaw rules include:
• Signs on public property are strictly prohibited including on highways, sidewalks, boulevards, centre medians, islands, parks, bare land, buildings, and other public locations.
• Signs on private property are permitted but must have the consent of the property owner, occupant, or strata corporation, prior to placement.
• Sight-line obstruction is prohibited at critical points such as intersections, driveways, and pedestrian crossings, which could pose safety hazards to motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians.
• Obstruction of pedestrian pathways by signs that block or hinder pedestrian movement on sidewalks or other walkways, causing inconvenience and potential safety risks are prohibited.
•Excessive signage placed in a single area, which lead to visual clutter and safety concerns for drivers or pedestrians may be removed.
• Failure to remove signs after the election may result in signs being removed and fines being applied by the Township.
The Township will remove signs if there is an issue with sight-lines or safety but will reach out to the candidate, party, property owner, or others if there is a complaint submitted about other aspects and may remove signs.

Signs removed due to a violation of the bylaw will be stored by the Township and can be retrieved by a candidate or candidate representative, or a person authorized by a candidate or candidate representative, at the Township Civic Facility, 20338 65 Ave. Monday to Friday until May 2, between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Signs not retrieved within four days become Township property.
