It was the end of a long day for Veronica Cave, namesake owner of Veronica鈥檚 Gourmet Perogies in Aldergrove.

Friday, Sept. 15 began with the Cops for Cancer Tour de Valley riders dropping by her store at 2989 272nd St. for some sustenance and a cheque presentation.

鈥淲e supply them with something quick to eat, and cold water, and fresh fruit, and a bathroom break, so they can continue on their journey,鈥 Cave explained.

Photos from the visit show a beaming Cave surrounded by officers in their riding outfits after her donation of $1,116. Colourful Chrysanthemums from two of three large flower pots are visible in the pictures.

She鈥檇 had the flowers about a week.

鈥淭ypically we have summer flowers and then those die off and then we switch it up to the mums,鈥 Cave told the 91原创 Advance Times.

鈥淚 get them at FreshCo in Aldergrove, they鈥檝e got a really nice selection there.鈥

After the riders departed, Cave had an appointment in Abbotsford for a Rotary Club golf fundraiser.

鈥淏y the time I got home, I was exhausted.鈥

Usually, she would bring the potted flowers inside at night, but decided to skip it for one evening.

The next day, all three pots were gone.

鈥淭he one night I decided not to bring them in, because I was too tired, they were gone the next morning,鈥 Cave laughed.

鈥淚鈥檓 okay now, but I wasn鈥檛 when I got to work. It鈥檚 like, are you serious?鈥

She posted a comment on her Facebook page saying 鈥渨hoever decided to take three of my large potted mums that were in front of my store last night, please enjoy them as much as I did! Dang, this sucks. The front of my store looks dull now.鈥

It isn鈥檛 the first time her store has been targeted for theft, Cave noted. Three years ago, there was a break-in that saw her front door smashed, but nothing taken.

鈥淥ther than that, yeah, this is the first time something like this has happened,鈥 she said.

Cave added security video is being reviewed, to see if the camera caught the crook or crooks in the act, and if it did, the image will be passed on to police.
