Alex Joehl, who ran in the October provincial election, is running in the federal byelection to fill the MP seat for Cloverdale-91原创 City.
Joehl has represented the federal Libertarians three times historically, most recently in 91原创-Aldergrove race in 2019. In the recent provincial election, he ran in the riding of 91原创-Abbotsford and has run in municipal elections as well. He is currently the president of the BC Libertarian Party.
鈥淩unning in this byelection is important to me because I want to make sure that all voters have a principled, liberty-based option to vote for,鈥 Joehl said.
鈥淭oo often we see many voters stay home on election day because there is no one worth getting of the couch for. I鈥檓 here to give them a reason to be part of the electorate again.鈥
Libertarians have not yet had a candidate before in the Cloverdale-91原创 City riding. A byelection was called Nov. 10 and people in that riding can vote Dec. 16.
The federal seat has been empty since Aldag resigned mid-2024 to run for the BC NDP in the provincial 91原创-Abbotsford riding. He was defeated by provincial Conservative Harman Bhangu.
Joehl said he鈥檚 running to bring up issues other parties won鈥檛, including abolition of the Bank of Canada. His platform includes banking reform, eliminating income tax and the carbon tax, using the GST to fund reduced federal government, ending the monopoly of cash being the only legal tender, to allow for crypto and other currencies, and remove Canadians from all international conflicts.
While Joehl lives in a neighbouring riding, he said he 鈥渨orks and plays within the riding鈥檚 boundaries.鈥
Also running in the riding are Liberal Madison Fleischer, Conservative Tamara Jansen, NDP Vanessa Sharma, and Green Party's Pat McCutcheon.
