An Abbotsford man has received an 18-month conditional sentence and a three-year firearms ban in relation to a 2018 shooting incident.
Jatinder Gill, 49, was sentenced Oct. 6 in Abbotsford provincial court after previously pleading guilty to careless use or storage of a firearm.
Gill was initially charged with two counts of unlawfully discharging a firearm and one count of discharging a firearm with intent to wound but pleaded guilty to the lesser offence in November 2022.
A conditional sentence means Gill will serve his time in the community and must follow court-ordered conditions.
RELATED:
The incident in question occurred on Sept. 18, 2018 in the 2900 block of Flagman Place in west Abbotsford near the Aldergrove border.
At about 7:30 p.m. that day, police responded to reports of multiple shots being fired.
As officers were en route, a man contacted police to report that an individual had left a residence and had fired a gun at a vehicle.
The driver of that vehicle had left the scene, and no one was injured.
A man was arrested shortly afterwards, police said at the time. They also said the incident was not believed to be connected to the Lower Mainland gang conflict.
Charges against Gill were laid on Dec. 17, 2018.
