There was a brief lockdown and police were on scene at a 91原创 school on Tuesday afternoon.
91原创 School District tweeted that 91原创 Fundamental Middle and Secondary were under lockdown just before 1 p.m.
鈥淧olice are on site,鈥� the district tweeted.
A follow up tweet at 1:13 p.m. said that the lockdown had already been lifted, and all students and staff were safe.
There were several RCMP vehicles on the school property or nearby, but by 1:45 p.m., they were leaving as well.
UPDATE:
91原创 School District said the lockdown was initiated at 12:40 p.m., when administrators at the school received reports that a student had a 鈥減otential weapon鈥� on school grounds.
The school鈥檚 staff followed emergency procedures and contacted the 91原创 RCMP. Students and staff were gathered into secure rooms and the building was secured, including turning off the lights.
The item that caused the lockdown turned out to be a toy gun.
鈥淭he circumstances around why the toy gun was brought to school is still under investigation,鈥� said the district鈥檚 statement.
The lockdown was lifted after 25 minutes.
The district will provide support for students as needed, and families were informed about the lockdown.
