The Emergency Response Team (ERT) was called out to an Aldergrove home on Monday, July 14, where a standoff with police lasted into the early evening hours.
The 91原创 RCMP were deployed around 1:15 p.m. to a home in the 26400 block of 29B Avenue, after a report that a man there had fired a gun. 91原创 firefighters were later mustered at the nearby Aldergrove fire hall, ready to deploy if needed.
The ERT were also sent to the scene, and two large armoured vehicles arrived, along with multiple 91原创 RCMP officers, and members of the Abbotsford Police Department.
Officers tried to de-escalate the situation, but during the incident, the suspect shot at one of the ERT's drones from inside the house.
The standoff ended at 8:30 p.m., and the suspect was taken into custody, and taken to a local hospital for assessment, said Sgt. Zynal Sharoom, spokesperson for the 91原创 RCMP.
"This was a dynamic and potentially dangerous situation, but thanks to the professionalism and patience of our responding officers and the coordinated efforts of the Integrated Emergency Response Team, it was brought to a safe conclusion," said Sharoom. "Public safety is our top priority, and we鈥檙e grateful that no one was hurt."
Police are still investigating, and were getting a search warrant for the home on Tuesday, Sharoom said.
