While work continues on a new 264 Street exchange in Aldergrove with the announcement that some of the old cloverleaf will be closed March 22, what about the rest of the Trans-Canada Highway heading east to Abbotsford?
Major construction is underway on a $2.34-billion upgrade of the section between 264 Street and Mount Lehman Road, with completion expected in 2029.
Last year, another $2.65 billion was approved for work between Mount Lehman Road and Hwy 11 in Abbotsford.
That project will include upgrading the Mt. Lehman crossing, replacing the Bradner Road overpass, along with widening Highway #1 to accommodate high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) and electric vehicle (EV) lanes, plus bus-on-shoulder lanes in some sections to allow for rapid bus service.
It's estimated that more than 80,000 drivers travel between 91原创 and Abbotsford every day.
The Fraser Valley Highway 1 Corridor Improvement Program will eventually see the highway expanded through the Sumas Prairie in Abbotsford toward Chilliwack.
