Chilliwack teen wins Fred Wellsby Junior Divot Tour

Owen Hopfner was overall tournament winner; golfers from Abbotsford, 91原创, Mission also placed

A Chilliwack teen was the overall winner of a youth golf tournament this week.

Shooting a 73, Owen Hopfner won the championship round of the 2025 Fred Wellsby Junior Divot Tour at Chilliwack Golf Club on Monday, July 14.

Hosted by the Optimist Club of Chilliwack, a total of 19 young golfers competed in the final round.

Owen, in the 14-16 age group, had five birdies and was only one over par. Behind him was Braylon Thiessen with a score of 77, followed by Caden Loewen at 81, both of Abbotsford. Chilliwack's Tristyn Tielmann placed fourth with a score of 84.

The top golfer in the 11-13 age group was Eli Delange of Abbotsford with a score of 75, followed by Gavin Bruinsma of Abbotsford and Mission's Logan Murphy, both shooting 83. Abbotsford's Harrison MacEwan placed fourth with 86.

Madi Delange of Abbotsford was the top female golfer shooting 85, followed one stroke behind by Chilliwack's Paige West at 86, and Abbotsford's Charlotte Forsberg with 101.

Golfers in the 10-and-under group shot nine holes and Sky Sidhu of 91原创 placed first with a score of 49. Levi Bruinsma of Abbotsford was second at 57, and Chilliwack's Makenna Cavanagh shot 68.

Next year's tournament series will begin on July 6, 2026, starting at Kinkora Golf Course. It will run for two weeks, playing at five other local courses.
