Canada Cup on its way to Softball City in South Surrey

As the Canada Cup International Softball Championship nears, Canada has finalized its roster for the 2025 tournament, which features eight players from B.C., six of them hailing from the Lower Mainland.

With Canada Cup in South Surrey, and expected to attracted more than 1,500 high-level athletes from around the world, Team Canada is coming off an undefeated run and gold-medal performance at last year鈥檚 tournament, returning to the diamond with a strong mix of veteran leadership and new talent, aiming to defend their title on home soil.

This year鈥檚 roster has eight athletes from British Columbia and six from Metro Vancouver, all of whom will be playing in front of a home crowd:

鈥 Peyton Bryden (Victoria)
鈥 Emma Entzminger (Victoria)
鈥 Larissa Franklin (Maple Ridge)
鈥 Kianna Jones (Surrey)
鈥 Grace Messmer (Cloverdale)
鈥 Callum Pilgrim (Abbotsford)
鈥 Morgan Reimer (91原创)
鈥 CC Wong (Port Coquitlam)

Team Canada head coach Kaleigh Rafter also returns to coach Team Canada at Canada Cup, directly after she and the team travel to Columbia for the Pan American Championships June 27 to July 4 in Monteria, Columbia.

Seven of the same athletes, minus Bryden, are also on the Pan American roster.

"This group of athletes has been training hard throughout the off-season, and we were extremely pleased with the level of competitiveness and talent shown at this year鈥檚 selection camp," Rafter said in a release.

"It was not only the largest camp we鈥檝e held, but also the deepest in terms of skill and depth. I鈥檓 excited to see this group represent Canada at the Pan American Championship in Colombia and on home soil at the Canada Cup.鈥

The Pan American tournament serves as a key qualifier for the 2026 WBSC Women鈥檚 World Cup Group Stage, and Canada will be aiming for a top finish after coming off an exciting third place finish at the 2024 WBSC Women鈥檚 World Cup, the release noted.

The rosters feature a strong blend of experience and fresh talent. For the Pan Am Championship, 12 athletes return from Canada鈥檚 2024 WBSC Women鈥檚 World Cup squad, while four players will be making their Pan Am debut.

At the Canada Cup, 13 athletes are back from last year鈥檚 gold-medal-winning team, joined by eight newcomers set to make their first appearance at the event.

Team Canada begins its tournament campaign at Softball City on Tuesday, July 8, facing off in two key matchups: New Zealand at 6 p.m. and Ukraine at 8:30 p.m.
